Civil & Development

Expert arborist assessments and reports for Melbourne’s commercial, public and residential sites.

Trees on development and construction sites sit at the intersection of programme delivery and environmental compliance.

Environmental managers are responsible for keeping projects moving while meeting the obligations set out in environment laws, planning permits, and protection frameworks, and trees are frequently where those two pressures meet.

Getting the arboricultural work right from the start at design stage, through approvals, and during construction, is significantly cheaper than managing the consequences of getting it wrong.

Melbourne Tree Care provides the full suite of AS4970 arboricultural services for civil construction and development projects, from preliminary assessment through to on-site project arborist supervision.

What the Assessment Involves

Melbourne Tree Care conducts tree risk assessments in accordance with QTRA (Quantified Tree Risk Assessment) and TRAQ (Tree Risk Assessment Qualification) using internationally recognised, evidence-based methodologies that quantify the likelihood of tree failure and the consequences for people and property.

Each assessment includes a visual inspection of every tree on site, a risk rating for each tree, and a clear report with prioritised recommendations. Where trees require further investigation, specialist services such as sonic tomography, aerial inspection, or Level 3 assessment are identified in the report and arranged directly with our clients.

Our reports are written to withstand scrutiny. If you ever need to demonstrate that you’ve met your duty of care to an insurer, a legal team, or an OH&S auditor, our documentation gives you that confidence.

Services

Preliminary Arboricultural Assessment

An early-stage assessment of trees on or adjacent to a proposed development site. Identifies constraints, opportunities, and arboricultural considerations before design is locked in, giving your team the information needed to make informed decisions early.

Arboricultural Impact Assessment

A detailed assessment of the impact a proposed development will have on existing trees, prepared in accordance with AS4970. Required by most councils as part of a planning permit application.

Tree Protection Specifications

Site-specific tree protection measures developed from the AIA, translated into practical specifications your construction team can implement and your environmental manager can enforce.

Arboricultural Methods Statement

Documentation of the approved methodology for works within tree protection zones, prepared for council or authority approval.

Project Arborist Services

On-site arboricultural supervision during construction to ensure tree protection measures are implemented correctly and AS4970 compliance is maintained throughout the project. Available for projects where Melbourne Tree Care was engaged at design stage.

Melbourne Tree Care’s proprietary Tree Protection Manager records compliance at every stage of the project, giving environmental managers instant access to documentation and the ability to demonstrate AS4970 compliance to stakeholders, inspectors, and project directors at any point during construction.
